Laser-Assisted Liposuction: A Gentler Approach to Fat Reduction

Published on October 31, 2017

Have you always dreamt of having a toned body that looks fit and trim? Sometimes, working out and following a healthy diet just isn’t enough to get the change you’re looking for. In these cases, laser-assisted liposuction might be the answer you’ve been looking for.

Many researchers and surgeons feel that this technique is the best way to sculpt the body. Laser liposuction requires minimal effort on the part of the patient and makes the procedure easier to perform, too.

What Is Laser-Assisted Liposuction?

Also known as laser-assisted lipolysis, laser-assisted liposuction is a cutting-edge FDA-approved technique of body sculpting. It removes excess body fat using laser technology, contouring and toning the treated area.

What makes it even better is that the process does not require you to stay in the hospital. It is minimally invasive, which means less bleeding and fewer side effects like bruising or swelling. This also means that the recovery process is often shorter than with the traditional method.

How Does Laser-Assisted Liposuction Work?

For laser-assisted liposuction, you will be taken into the hospital surgery room and given local anesthesia to numb the region of treatment. Through a tiny incision on the skin, a small tube is inserted into the fat layer. A fiber optic laser is attached to this tube, which is then connected to the suction device or vacuum.

The heat emitted by the laser at different wavelengths delivers heat energy to the fat cells in the treated area, melting them and breaking them down. This allows them to drain out from the body through the tube.

Apart from dissolving your excess stubborn body fat, laser-assisted liposuction also has an additional benefit. This state-of-the-art procedure is able to tighten the loose drooping skin surrounding the treatment area by stimulating collagen production in the tissues.

It is different from traditional liposuction in that the need for harsh and strong suction of fat is not needed, as the fat cells are broken down using laser energy. Traditional liposuction also does not have the ability to tighten your skin.

Am I An Eligible Candidate For Laser-Assisted Liposuction?

If you are above 18 years old and in good overall health, there should be no problem if you opt for laser-assisted liposuction. Usually, people above 35 years old opt for this procedure, because it is after this age that the skin starts losing elastin and collagen, which results in excess fat and loose skin.

Areas of the body like the thighs, abdomen, knees, neck, face, arms, chest/breast, and back rolls can be treated using laser-assisted liposuction.
