DIEP flaps for Breast Reconstruction

Published on August 30, 2012

So many patients are now asking for DIEP flap reconstruction during mastectomies. We have established a DIEP flap program here in Rockland County NY at Good Samaritan Hospital. We work with a comprehensive team of Breast Surgeons, Microsurgeons, Anesthesiologists and OR staff. Our results have been outstanding and our patients very happy. DIEP flaps or perforator flaps are alternatives to silicone or saline implants for breast reconstruction, and can be performed at the same time as mastectomy, or later as a second stage reconstruction after chemo and radiation. When a patient has a problem with late effects of radiation to the breast, often implants are not tolerated, so we now can use DIEP flaps to salvage the breast reconstruction.
